Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA) showcased the development of the new investments and initiatives that have been delivered at GITEX Technology Week, being hosted at the Dubai World Trade Center. The free zone showcased the advantages of the new services and the investment benefits it offers to regional and international companies.

During the event, DAFZA hosted an official delegation from several Indian companies specializing in Internet of things (IoT), blockchain and digital solutions. The aim of this visit was to plan investments of Indian businesses to the free zone. The companies will potentially join the other Asian companies that account for 29% of organizations at DAFZA that operate and provide services in the UAE and the region with valuable solutions in key markets.

DAFZA’s representatives discussed investment opportunities with a high-level Chinese delegation and showcased the smooth transferability of Chinese company investments to the free zone. The visit was organized after a series of promotional and awareness campaigns that DAFZA organized earlier in the year to a number of Chinese provinces including Shenzhen and Guangzhou where leading Chinese businesses are based in.

DAFZA also hosted an official delegation of representatives from Malaysian companies that are looking to invest in the free zone, and establish business outside of Malaysia in the coming period.

On the side-lines of GITEX, DAFZA organized an investment forum with the participation of representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce in Dubai and the UAE-UK Business Council. The forum highlighted the mechanism of establishing a business in the free zone along with opportunities and advantages of investing in Dubai. The forum focused on the e-commerce sector and Dubai CommerCity, the region’s first e-commerce free zone in the Middle East and North Africa, and how companies can contribute to the project and the growing e-commerce industry.

Abdulaziz Ahmed Al Hammadi, Senior Marketing and Corporate Communications  Manager at DAFZA commented: “DAFZA’s participation at GITEX is paramount as it is one of the most important technology exhibitions specialized in the ICT sectors in the world. This is particularly crucial for us as 30% of the registered companies in DAFZA are specialized within these sectors, which counts as the highest percentage at the free zone. This year’s presence at GITEX, along with the investment forum has been a major success, given the great interest DAFZA has received from major international companies that are looking to establish business in Dubai. India and China are key markets for our long-term vision.”

DAFZA also announced the success of its new strategy for business set up at GITEX. The free zone has completed more than 60,000 customer transactions for business set up through cloud technology and automation. The results so far have reaffirmed DAFZA’s commitment to investing in cutting edge technology and innovation, led by Internet of Things and cloud solutions.

Digital services and solutions

Buthaina Bin Fahad, Senior Director of Information and Communication Technology, DAFZA said: “DAFZA has a strategic role to play in attracting foreign direct investment to Dubai. Our aim is to enable businesses to set up quickly and efficiently and through technology we are achieving this goal. Enabling businesses to set up through the cloud has led to increased operational efficiency and acceleration of all technical services. Cloud technology has also led to greater customer service and high performance storage technology, plus disaster recovery.”

Buthaina Bin Fahad commented: “We have made great progress over the past few months on Dubai Blink which will completely transform how companies trade and do business around the world. We are working with Dubai Free Zone Council on this ambitious initiative under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and we have also begun discussions with the World Free Zone Organization to include global free zones in the project.”

In partnership with Bright Ideas, DAFZA has also created LaunchPad: an innovation process where employees can transform their ideas into full-fledged projects. This is being done through design thinking workshops that form teams with other employees across various departments to execute them. DAFZA intends to roll this out to involve clients within the coming period so that the entire DAFZA community can take part in the innovation process.

DAFZA’s presence at GITEX this year highlights its ongoing commitment to leverage its advanced ICT solutions to better serve customers through more innovative business solutions and advanced digital services.

In support of the UAE vision 2021, DAFZA is focusing on innovation-based initiatives with a strategy of transforming and future proofing its services to be able to cater to the evolving digital economy.

DAFZA is welcoming visitors to its stand at GITEX located at DAFZA-CC2 -1.
